NHS 111 service

If you need urgent medical advice, but it's not a life threatening emergency, dial 111, or use the NHS App or NHS111 Online.  NHS 111 is a fast and easy way to get the right help, day or night.

NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  Calls are free from landlines and mobile phones.

The NHS 111 service is staffed by a team of fully trained advisers, supported by experienced nurses and paramedics.  They will ask you questions to assess your symptoms, then give you the healthcare advice you need or direct you, straight away, to the local service that can help you best.  That could be A&E, an out of hours doctor, an urgent care centre, or a walk-in centre, a community nurse, an emergency dentist or a late-opening chemist.

ALWAYS dial 999 and ask for an ambulance in a life threatening or limb threatening emergency.  Chest pains and / or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.

Your needs will be assessed and you will be given advice about whether you need to:

  • Treat yourself at home
  • Go to a Primary Care Centre

If you need face to face medical attention, you may be asked to attend a Primary Care Centre.

Wellbeing & Mental Health

Morning everyone.  How are you doing?  It’s tough out there, isn’t it?

Are you struggling with some suicidal thoughts or maybe a bereavement?  Are you feeling anxious or depressed?  Maybe you’re experiencing some low mood or self-esteem?  Have you heard of Qwell?

Qwell is an NHS-funded online service for adults across Devon, Plymouth and Torbay, and it’s completely free and 100% confidential

When you feel ready for support with your wellbeing or mental health, or maybe need someone just to listen, without the need for a doctor’s referral or a long waiting list, you can log in to Qwell.  It’s free to use and totally anonymous so, without fear of criticism or judgement, you can speak one to one with a professional counsellor or emotional wellbeing practitioner for up to an hour, via instant messaging on your laptop, tablet or mobile phone.  If you need more time, Qwell can arrange more sessions with the same professional.

Unsure?  Maybe log in and follow a chat with others dealing with similar issues.  You don’t have to contribute to the chat, perhaps just read the discussion boards and forums, browse the self-help articles, and access some valuable help and support, wherever you are.  Sometimes it helps to know you’re not the only one who feels the way you do – and remember, you don’t need to give your name or details.

Give it a try - follow the link to Qwell.  Because whatever is on your mind, your feelings, difficult thoughts, something you’re going through - no matter how big or small, they can offer the support you need and today could be the day you begin to feel a tiny bit better.
